The human spine or backbone is composed of 26 vertebrae that protect your spinal cord and helps with your posture. It has three parts: cervical, thoracic, and lumbar. Injuries, infections, and illnesses of the spine will cause damages to the bones and the surrounding tissues and nerves.
We at Housecall MD, a provider of health care in Silverdale, Washington and Poulsbo and Bremerton, have listed some of the common conditions of the spine below.
- Scoliosis – is a condition when the spine curves in a C or S. You will notice a person with this condition has uneven shoulders or hips.
- Disc Herniation – it happens when the discs that act as cushions between your spine push out of place towards the spinal canal, causing pain, discomfort, numbness, and weakness, especially when pressing a nerve. Herniation or protrusion may occur in all three different parts of the spine but is common in the lumbar or lower back area.
- Cauda Equina Syndrome – is a condition that affects the nerves in the lower spine region, which causes lower back pain, bladder and bowel movement problems, and loss of sensation, particularly in the thigh area.
Having these illnesses can be challenging. Your movements and activities will be restricted, especially those that can cause strains and involve twisting and turning. When you are unable to rush to a hospital due to any of these conditions, a mobile clinic will be very convenient.
