At restaurants and food places:
- Observe the cleanliness of the area.
If the establishment doesn’t look like it is cleaned regularly, it would be in your best interest to dine in another food place.
- Check the meal for signs of being undercooked.
Some people argue that half-cooked meat is tastier. However, it might still contain harmful organisms.
At the grocery store:
- Observe the container for any damage.
Dented and bloated canned foods seem like only a result of improper shipping and handling. However, it could also be a sign of bacterial growth. While you’re at it, don’t forget to glance at the expiration date too.
- Review the ingredients.
Are you allergic to nuts, shellfish, and the like? A good number of products have these items as a part of their ingredients, so be sure to always check the labels. If you require with managing your allergies, our mobile clinic can readily tend to you too.
- Keep the ingredients from contaminating each other.
Don’t cut up vegetables and fruit in the same cutting board as meat. It could pass on unwanted contaminants. Be sure to rinse these items before storage too.
- Have the refrigerator at a proper temperature.
Set the thermostat below 40°F to keep bacteria and other harmful organisms from thriving.
